Turnaround Management/Project Reclamation

We will assist in situations in which a computer services organization or project is performing below the expectations of an institution’s senior administration and faculty. Whether the underlying causes are organizational, managerial, staff related, or are the result of unrealistic expectations and/or resource allocations, we will get to the root of the problems and make specific recommendations for getting the organization or project back on track.

Representative projects:

Highly Selective, Residential Liberal Arts College
1,600 students

We did an IT staffing and organizational review at this college, leading to specific recommendations about jobs, job descriptions, and organizational effectiveness.

Private University, Urban Setting
10,500 students

We conducted a project at this university with the major focus on the organization, and the possible outsourcing, of the IT department. We reviewed their organizational options, including the methodology by which they could successfully conclude a number of systems projects. As an alternative to outsourcing, we recommended a restructuring of the department, a new governance structure, and a new set of policies and procedures.

Community College

5,000 students

The users at this institution were extremely frustrated with their information system and the support the system received. We recommended a process for acquiring a new system, resulting in much higher levels of user satisfaction.

Research University
11,000 students

The perception of the community at this institution was that the IT area was underperforming. We did a campus-wide assessment of current practices and deliverables that led to the development of a strategic plan, forming the foundation of a new relationship between the IT department and its users.

Liberal Arts College
1,900 students

This college was dealing with an ERP implementation that had gone badly wrong. The project was millions of dollars over budget and a year behind schedule. We made recommendations to turn the project completely around and to restore faith in the IT department.
